BSUPA SUP Lessons and Qualifications
Our SUP Lessons are suitable for all due to the safe, shallow water of Christchurch harbour.

ShoreSports is a British Stand Up Paddleboarding Association (BSUPA) approved school our SUP lessons are run by BSUPA qualified instructors. With Christchurch you won’t find many better places SUP for the first time. Enjoy a stunning environment, where we will take you through the basics of the sport. All equipment is included, board, leash, paddle and wetsuits for those who want them. We help you to learn and improve your skills as you start or continue you SUPing journey.
SUP Taster
Duration 1 hours – Price £30
Age: 8+
This is a great introduction to SUPing and is suitable for all groups, families and individuals. In just one hour we cover the basics, learn how to get on the board, control it, paddle efficiently and safety considerations. It is a good first step before joining our BSUPA Level 1 and continuing your progression in SUPing.
Private SUP Lesson
Price £50 per hour, or £90 for two people
If a group lesson isn’t for you, then book a private lesson with us. We can cover what ever skills you like covering anything from a first time taster lesson to more advanced racing or touring techniques. We can also teach children of any age, although suggest from 6 years old. Email us
BSUPA – Level 1 – Ready to Ride
Duration 2 hours – Price £50
Ages: 14+ (We run Kids specific courses for aged 8 – 14yrs)
The BSUPA Level 1 “Ready to Ride” course is aimed at adults and ideal for the people who have maybe done a taster lesson or had a go before, but want to learn the basics properly.
The course structure is designed to give you the information you need to get on the water safely, have fun and learn the basic techniques of paddle boarding.
After completing the Ready To Ride course, adults, young students should be able to:
- Launch and recover safely (with assistance where required)
- Set up paddle, board and leash (with assistance where required) Know how to fall safely and recover to shore using a recovery method.
- Have a good basic paddle stroke
- Perform a series of turns
- Show competence and confidence afloat.
- Have an understanding of how weather and tide effects SUP
The 2 hour course is run in flat water and at the end of it, assuming all aspects are covered, you will be presented with your BSUPA Level 1 Ready to Ride Certificate.
BSUPA – Level 2 – Ready to Tour
Duration 1 Day (6 hours) or two half days – Price £95 (need to do level 1 first)
Age: 8+
The Aim of this course is to introduce people to the enjoyment of touring and exploring but offer more than an experience. Having completed this course students should feel that they are ready to plan their own adventures and have new skills to improve their time on the water.
By the end of this course paddlers should be able to
- Understand the different locations to paddle and their restrictions, challenges
- Have knowledge of different touring disciplines and how to get involved
- Be able to select the best touring equipment for themselves
- Can demonstrate an improved efficient paddle stroke
- Can use a variety of strokes to maintain tracking and manoeuvrability on the water.
- Can navigate obstacles and third parties afloat taking into account, flow, weather and any other elements.
- Have knowledge of how to plan a trip taking into account weather, flow, tide, access, 3rd parties, exit options,
- Have understanding of personal gear you might take with you when touring. Have planned completed and experienced a tour.
At the end of the course, assuming all aspects are covered, you will be presented with your BSUPA Level 1 Ready to Ride Certificate.
